Designing and developing the best football tournament website one can find

Blink Helsinki created a new look and a new website for the HooGee Panda Cup junior football tournament in just 3 weeks. It is an excellent example of an agile web development project without compromising on quality.

The site is built on the HubSpot platform. This also gave the tournament organisation access to all of HubSpot's other smart features, from CRM and communication tools to the ticketing system.

"Mobile first"

Responsive web design to ensure usability

According to user analytics, the majority of usage takes place on mobile devices. The new website was designed on "mobile first" basis. The website is responsive, accessible and usable regardless of the user's device.

Agile web development

How to build a new website in just 3 weeks?

With a team of top notch professionals and a modern development method, one can reach the finish line without going off course.
- A structured design system provides a steady framework for the design, streamlining the transition from one work phase to the next, as, for example, the design of the site's content structure (wireframes) translates directly into a visual design framework (GUI layouts), which in turn translates directly into technical implementation specifications and makes the technical implementation straightforward and hassle-free.
- A customisable development scheme enables high quality, bullet proof implementation in an agile way and also in fast timeframe when needed. The customizability allows each site component to be built exactly as desired. At the same time, the chosen GUI philosophy and design language remains consistent across the board.

The secure HubSpot platform also saves you unnecessary work, hassle and costs

With the HubSpot platform, there's no need to worry about security issues, plug-in updates or unexpected maintenance costs. The professional platform runs 24/7 without the need for anyone to actively monitor it.

The HubSpot platform also eliminates many of the challenges involved in running a tournament.
Each tournament (held 2 times a year) needs to attract around 300-400 teams. This had previously been done by the volunteers of the age-group teams responsible for the various leagues. Messages have been sent to familiar opponents via email, SMS and social media. Now, with the new solution, marketing can be done mainly in a centralised and integrated way through HubSpot's newsletter tool and smart CRM lists. This means that those who have already signed up, and those who for one reason or another do not wish to receive them can be automatically removed from the mailing lists.

HubSpot also makes it easy to manage enrolments. Teams' registrations were managed before via Google Forms. Now, through HubSpot Service Hub's ticketing system, the management of enrolments is more straightforward. When an enrollee submits a form, a confirmation message is automatically sent to the recipient. And when that team is accepted into a series or alternatively placed in a queue (if the series is already full), an automated message is sent to the recipient and the recipient is kept up to date.

Through active lists, the tournament can be marketed to exactly those people who might be potentially interested. The CRM accumulates information about contacts who have registered or are in the "sales" pipeline, making it easier to market future tournaments. A large number of potential entrants are already in the CRM and do not need to be dug out of email folders or people's notes.

The tournament organisation involves several dozen parent volunteers. A single, unified solution can ease and lighten the burden on the entire team by allowing marketing and enrolment management to be done centrally.

A pro bono project to help make football available to as many children as possible

Junior sport is largely based on voluntary work. There are limited resources and manpower available. This is why websites for football clubs and tournaments, for example, are typically low-quality "home pages".

We wanted to help the HooGee Panda Cup, a junior tournament in Espoo, as a pro bono project. The Panda Cup does a valuable job of raising funds and thus making sports available to children who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate. Revenues from the tournament are donated to the junior teams and to the HooGee Social Fund.
